Dear Prime Minister

We call on you and the British government to declare as illegal any transactions involving the acquisition or occupation by third parties of Greek Cypriot owned land or property in the Turkish occupied north of the Republic of Cyprus.

It is settled law that:

• Greek Cypriots remain the only valid title holders of their lands and properties in Turkish occupied north Cyprus (as per the Loizidou v Turkey European Court of Human Rights decision, 1996).

• The Republic of Cyprus courts have jurisdiction over the land in occupied Cyprus. Any judgments against those illegally occupying land can be enforced against their assets in other EU member states (as per the ‘Apostolides v Orams’ European Court of Justice decision, 2009).

We call on you to clearly inform the British public via the government’s website that it is unlawful to purchase such lands and properties.

Furthermore, we ask you and the British government to acknowledge that Turkey is the only obstacle to a negotiated settlement and to take all necessary steps to ensure that the President of Cyprus Mr Christofias and Mr Eroglu are allowed to negotiate freely and without Turkey’s interference and intimidation.
